June has arrived, and The Valley Concert Society is between seasons. From the mellow opening notes by Axiom Brass to the utterly brilliant finale at the hands of pianist David Jalbert, we have experienced many inspirational moments. We have learned things we didn’t know; we have been amused; and we have been deeply moved.

Couloir served an international buffet of music from France, Scotland, Ukraine, and Canada. Owain Park’s wry commentary provided the perfect counterpoint to the church music of the English Renaissance sung so beautifully by Gesualdo Six. The Viano String Quartet guided us from the creative wit of Haydn to the intensity of the mature Beethoven. Isaiah Bell invited us to share his deeply personal interaction with Robert Schumann’s gorgeous song cycle.

A hearty thank you is due to all who helped and all who came to enjoy this musical journey with us. To that I add an invitation to come along for our 2023-24 season.

The season begins with a highlight as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the founding of our society. The seeds were planted by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the players in October have a direct connection to the VSO. What’s more, they will play the very program that was first heard here in 1983.

There are several good reasons to complete your subscription now. Everyone who subscribes by June 30 will be part of a draw for an additional free subscription. For returning members, we will hold your seat reservations from last season until June 30. After that date, they will be opened to new subscribers.

We deeply appreciate the many who add a generous donation at the time of purchasing their subscription. Like nearly all societies in our field, the VCS is living through a financial pinch coming out of the pandemic. Your generosity is essential to enable us to maintain ticket prices at last year’s rates. https://valleyconcertsociety.com/shop/

You may notice that on the Donations & Support page on our website two new ways to donate have been enabled. You can now choose to make your donation by automatic monthly withdrawal through Canada Helps. As well, you can make donations of securities through Canada Helps. Both of these have come about through the initiative of interested and caring subscribers and are being used. Thank you for your input. https://valleyconcertsociety.com/donations-support/

Have a wonderful summer. I look forward to celebrating with you on the afternoon of Sunday, October 22.
