We are thrilled to open our 2024/25 season with one of Vancouver’s musical gems. musica intima takes the stage at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Friday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m.
musica intima has no conductor. It is a self-directed professional vocal ensemble of singers who work together collaboratively. Each member is given a voice in the creation of the performances that they present.
The group began in 1992 when founder Michael Murray gathered some singers around his living room table which was well-supplied with bottles of Spanish wine. From there it has grown into the award-winning organization that it is today.
Their most recent recording NAGAMO was nominated for a Juno Award in 2022. It featured a fascinating interaction between the music of the English Renaissance composer William Byrd and contemporary Anishinaabe composer Andrew Balfour. One of Balfour’s pieces from that recording will open the program in Abbotsford. NAGAMO is only one of many recordings by the ensemble. Their Christmas CD O Nata Lux is a seasonal favorite in our household.
musica intima has toured extensively—in BC from Vancouver Island to the Okanagan, across Canada from Whitehorse to Newfoundland, and around the world from Denmark to Korea. Along the way they have earned a prestigious national and international reputation.
You have an opportunity to hear the beautiful voices, the lush harmonies, and the amazing precision of these remarkable musicians here in Abbotsford. Tickets for this performance are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students.
