Isidore String Quartet

The Valley Concert Society is delighted to present the Isidore String Quartet at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m.

The group won first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2022. This is a major international competition drawing entrants from around the world. We are honoured to be part of the winner’s tour for this latest edition of the competition.

Winning at Banff has proven to be a springboard for the careers of many fine quartets, including three who have performed in Abbotsford. We hosted the all-female Cecilia String Quartet in 2013. The St. Lawrence String Quartet brought a particularly memorable concert in 2016. Last year we had the brilliant young Viano String Quartet, winners in 2019.

The Isidore String Quartet has continued to shine, having been named winners of a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in New York last year.

The members of the quartet come from across the US—Seattle, Santa Fe, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. They met at the Juilliard School in New York where they formed the ensemble.

They openly acknowledge their debt to the Juilliard String Quartet. In fact, they have named themselves after Isidore Cohen, one of the great violinists in the history of this legendary ensemble. They have studied with current and recent members of the quartet. Violist Molly Carr, who performed such a beautiful concert here in February, is the newest member of the Juilliard SQ.

In another connection to Molly Carr, Isidore’s biography lists their involvement with Project: Music Heals Us, an organization she founded to provide high quality live music to disadvantaged communities.

We are privileged to have this exceptionally talented group perform here. Their program will include the music of Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Billy Childs.

Tickets for this evening of great music are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students. For more information, call 604-289-3377.

I look forward to seeing you at the concert.
