As the calendar turns over to 2024, The Valley Concert Society is eagerly anticipating four great programs to enrich your winter and spring. On Friday, February 23, the Carr-Petrova Duo from New York brings the first concert in our history to feature a viola as something other than an accompanying instrument. The duo has planned a marvellous program of music completely by female composers.
On Friday, March 15, the Vancouver Chamber Choir makes a return visit, this time under their new conductor, Kari Turunen. The choir has developed a respected international reputation and is one of Vancouver’s musical gems.
The Banff International String Quartet Competition has become one of the world’s premier tests, with string quartets from around the world working hard just for the privilege of participating. We are delighted to host the most recent winners, the Isidore String Quartet from the USA, on Thursday, April 18.
Our season concludes on Friday, May 10, with a piano recital featuring Abbotsford’s Laura Altenmueller, one of several outstanding musicians coming out of our home town. Before gaining her doctorate at the University of Western Ontario, Laura earned her Master’s degree at the University of Ottawa. Her instructor, David Jalbert, who performed so brilliantly here last May, had high words of praise for his former student.
All of these concerts take place in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com. Phone 604-289-3377 for more information.
