The Valley Concert Society will welcome the great Stefan Jackiw along with three outstanding colleagues to the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Saturday, January 18, at 7:30 p.m.
We are delighted that Jackiw will be one of the musicians joining us for the pre-concert talk in the foyer at 6:50 p.m.
Stefan was in this area most recently in June of 2023 when he played Brahms’ Violin Concerto with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. This year his calendar takes him around the world to perform with orchestras from Ireland to Korea.
Among his recordings is one of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto together with a stellar cast: pianist Inon Barnatan, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields under the direction of Alan Gilbert.
Chamber music has been an important aspect of Jackiw’s musical career. He is a member of the Junction Trio and has appeared in festivals across the US and Europe. He plays on a violin made in 1705 by Vincenzo Ruggieri.
Together with his wife, the clarinetist Yoonah Kim, cellist Arnold Choi of Calgary, and pianist Henry Kramer, currently of Montreal, he will perform the powerful Smetana Piano Trio and the delightful quartet by Rabl on Saturday. His three colleagues will open the concert with one of Brahms’ last few compositions, his Clarinet Trio.
Tickets and a detailed online program are available at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students. Doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m.
