At the Concert

posted in: News

The 2023-24 concert season for The Valley Concert Society is turning out to be a season of experiment. When the Vancouver Chamber Choir performs on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, we will again have a short printed program with the full program posted online. It is there and accessible now.

Because this is a choral concert, there will be words that you would want to understand. Much of the concert is in foreign languages: ancient Scottish, Latin, Estonian, German, and medieval English.

Rather than having numerous printed pages for you to look up and down at and to avoid noisy page flipping, we will project the texts and translations on the screen above the choir as they are singing.

There is one exception. The fourth song has such complicated elements involved in the text and the music moves along so quickly that it would drive anyone to distraction trying to follow it. So for that one piece, we will invite you simply to listen and absorb the music you hear. The conductor will introduce it from the stage.

We look forward to hearing your feedback about projecting text.

Dr. Kari Turunen will be my guest for the pre-concert talk in the foyer at 6:50 p.m.

Tickets are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students. Call 604-289-3377 for more information.

The concert will be a wonderful opportunity to hear choral music being sung at the very finest level. I look forward to seeing you there.
