Doug Gardham, host of the podcast Better Than Not, has shared with the Valley Concert Society an interview he recorded with tenor Benjamin Butterfield ahead of his concert at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Friday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m.
They covered a range of topics including lessons that Benjamin learned as he was developing a career in music, keys to performance, and listener expectations at concerts. I was particularly fascinated by Butterfield’s conversation around the music of Randy Newman—what he thinks about when programming it and how he approaches his own performance of songs that have come to us in such a unique style.

Tickets are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $35 for adults and $20 for students. Call 604-289-3377 for more information.
