The Valley Concert Society is looking forward to the performance by the Butter Quartet at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Friday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m.
The quartet will present an imaginatively prepared program entitled Well Met By Moonlight. Framed by the evocative works of Felix Mendelssohn, the program also incorporates pieces by Schubert and Haydn.
Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet, Op. 50, No. 5, subtitled The Dream after the gentle second movement, adds to the atmosphere. By contrast, the other three movements, which display Haydn’s lively and humorous tendencies, bring to mind the antics of Nick Bottom and the rest of the comic troupe in Shakespeare’s play.
This creative bit of programming comes from the fertile intellects of the four musicians and their willingness to bring their imaginations into their art.
Violinist Anna Jane Lester is both a musician and an illustrator. Born in Florida, her musical path took her to university in Nashville, Tennessee, through the Juilliard School in New York, and to the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
Like violist Isabel Franenberg, she has performed with ensembles all over Europe and England. We are thrilled to welcome the group to Abbotsford on their first ever tour to North America.
Tickets for this concert are available online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com at $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students. Call 604-289-3377 for more information.
I look forward to seeing you at the concert.
