The Valley Concert Society is thrilled to bring two brilliant musicians, the Carr-Petrova Duo, to the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Friday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. for a performance of music by female composers through three centuries.
The duo will also participate in two other events which are part of the Valley Concert Society’s desire to contribute to the community life of Abbotsford by making the talents of these two amazing artists available to others.
On Thursday, February 22, at 3:30 p.m., the duo will perform a shorter concert at the Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Rd., for the community served by the Salvation Army. The Valley Concert Society is providing this program free of charge to that audience.
This performance resonates with the values of the duo. Molly Carr is the founder and CEO of Project: Music Heals Us. It arose out of her experience of the remarkable healing power of music as she served in a residential care facility. The organization is dedicated to providing high-quality live music to disadvantaged populations—the elderly, disabled, rehabilitating, incarcerated, and homeless.
On Saturday, February 24, at 1:30 p.m. violist Molly Carr will serve as the clinician at a masterclass at Peace Lutheran Church, 2029 Ware St. Four talented string students from the Fraser Valley will have 30-minute sessions to work on a piece of music with this skilled professional.
Molly is an instructor at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music located at Lincoln Center in New York. The masterclass is open to the public, a rare opportunity to observe the interaction between a high-level teacher and talented students.
Tickets to attend the masterclass are only $10. The short concert on Thursday is free of charge. The feature concert on Friday is $32 for adults/seniors and $20 for students. There is a discount available for those who wish to attend both the masterclass and the Friday concert at $35 for adults/seniors and $25 for students. These are all available for purchase online at www.valleyconcertsociety.com .
