The Valley Concert Society is pleased to announce its third masterclass for piano students to take place on
Saturday, February 22, 2020. The clinician is brilliant Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin.
Charles Richard-Hamelin is now regarded as one of Canada’s premiere pianists. He shot
to international stardom at the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015 when he
won the Silver Medal and the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a
sonata. This represents the best ever result for a Canadian pianist at this prestigious
competition. Richard-Hamelin has released several highly-acclaimed recordings. The first
volume of his Beethoven violin sonatas with Andrew Wan was nominated for a Juno
Award this past year.
Richard-Hamelin will perform as part of the Valley Concert Society series the evening
before the masterclass on Friday, February 21. Participants and attendees at the
masterclass will have the opportunity to attend that concert at a discounted rate.
The deadline to apply is Monday, January 13. Eligible piano students are those who live
in Abbotsford or Mission or who study regularly with a teacher in Abbotsford or Mission.
We invite piano teachers to recommend students who are studying at a minimum of Level
8 and who would benefit from a session with a world-class musician. Submit the
accompanying application form by email to email@example.com .
Note that the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations will be video recording this session. It will be posted on the CFMTA website in a password-protected link accessible only to registered music teachers. The clinician has agreed to the recording.
Students who participate will require signed permission from a parent or
guardian on the application form acknowledging the recording.
There is no cost to a student who is playing for the masterclass or for any accompanist
who may be taking part. The cost for all others to attend is listed below.
