Bergmann Duo Caps a Great Season

The Bergmann Duo will put an exclamation mark on a wonderful season for The Valley
Concert Society when they perform at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium on Friday,
April 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The husband-and-wife team of Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann are leading figures in the
Lower Mainland music scene. Besides their roles as instructors at the Langley
Community Music School and artistic directors at both White Rock Concerts and
Classical Coffee Concerts in Maple Ridge, they enjoy an international career as a
critically acclaimed piano duo.

As if that is not enough to keep him busy, Marcel is also an accomplished composer and
arranger. The duo will perform a number of his arrangements in this program of musical
favourites from America.

Both halves of the concert will open with the music of Leonard Bernstein, arranged for
two pianos by Marcel Bergmann. Music lovers have been celebrating the hundredth
anniversary of Bernstein’s birth during this concert season.
Popular works by Barber, Copland and Gershwin add to a who’s who of American
classics. The Bergmanns dip into the world of jazz with Blue Rondo à la Turk by Dave
Brubeck before ending the concert with a trip to South America and the music of
Piazzolla and Gismonti.

The Liz Carter Talk will take place in the foyer at 6:50 p.m. Tickets are available at $28
for adults and $15 for students on the society’s website .
Don’t miss this rousing conclusion to our season as Marcel and Elizabeth bring their
legendary energy and passion to this marvelous program.
